Training for Focal Points and Governmental Experts participating in the Review Mechanism for the United Nations Convention against Corruption

Malaysia has been chosen to go through the process of assessment of compliance on Chapter II – Preventive Measures and Chapter V – Asset Recovery of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in the Second Cycle of the First Year (2016/17) through the process of drawing of lots that was held during the meeting implementation of Review Group (IRG) of UNCAC held in Vienna, Austria on June 20, 2016.
In this regard, Malaysia through the MACC is proud as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has chosen the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) in implementing its Training Course for all Focal Points and Governmental Experts (UNCAC) to attend a special course which will directly provide guidance and instructions especially for countries that are going through the First Year session on review mechanism.
The overall objective of this exercise is to develop the capacity of the participants to take part in the UNCAC Review Mechanism (Mechanism Evaluation). The course also aims to, among other things:
- Equip participants with the necessary expertise in the substantive provisions of the UNCAC in the lead and implement reviews through the use SACL (Self-Assessment Check List for each country) or Self-Assessment Checklist;
- To train participants in methods to review the country;
- Enable participants to familiarize themselves with the self-assessment checklists are comprehensive and related guidanceThe training is designed to deliver a specific learning objectives in an interactive way during the 2 and ½ days (Wednesday-Friday of 10 to 14 October 2016), with a separate 2-day session devoted to Focal Points in advance. A total of 52 participants from 18 countries, especially among members of the Asia-Pacific as well as four (4) experts from the Office of the Secretary of UNODC in Vienna and Bangkok also took part in the training which includes plenary sessions that allows experts and stakeholders to provide information and engaged in discussions with a view to exchanging information and explain key concepts.
